Fo0die dined as a guest of Fleischer Cakes and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.
We arrived at Fleischer Cakes on a lazy Saturday afternoon for some afternoon tea. The cafe is easily accessible with tram route 16 running along the street and 1P parking on Glenferrie Road until 4pm on a Saturday. For those after a longer afternoon tea break, longer parking is available nearby at Coles or Llaneast St.
Fleischer Cakes was established in 1938 and has been at their Malvern location for the last 10 years. Interesting fact we learnt while we were there was that, Piero Brunetti, who was the original owner of the popular Brunetti, actually bought this business.
Upon entry of their faux greenery entrance, you are literally surrounded by ice-cream, pastry and baked goods that are all made on-site. While the front of the cafe is occupied by the goodies Fleischer Cakes offers, the back has some seats available for those wishing to dine in over a cup of tea or coffee. Outdoor seating is available at the front of the cafe by the street which is enclosed with plastic pull downs.
While there was no actual paper menu that we could see, the visual menu of the physical item were all neatly displayed in the glass cabinets. From vanilla slices to eclairs to fruit tarts to doughnuts to cannoli, everything is made onsite and ready for takeaway or consumption.
We had an eclair and cannoli with a mocha while watching people walk by on the street (this was of course after taking multiple shots of the items with our camera haha). The cannoli was half filled with custard and chocolate filling and while the shell itself was no longer crisp due to being already filled, the filling had a lovely flavour and was smooth. The eclair was filled with cream and was slightly on the drier side.
The stand out for us, for this particular visit, was their gelato which, similar to all their pastry is all made onsite and soo delicious. With a cabinet filled to the brink of all different flavours, there is definitely something for everyone.
